Solitaire, known in many parts of the world as “Patience,” is more than just a game—it’s a relaxing mental workout. The goal is simple: sort a shuffled 52-card deck into four foundation piles by suit, in ascending order from Ace to King. It’s a perfect blend of luck, strategy, and foresight.
How to Play Klondike Solitaire: A Beginner’s Guide
New to the game? This simple guide will have you playing like a pro in minutes. The Objective The goal is to move all 52 cards onto the four Foundation piles at the top of the screen. Each foundation is for a single suit and must be built up in order, starting with the Ace and ending with the King (A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K). The Game Board
- The Tableau: The seven columns of cards in the main area. You build these columns downward (King to Ace) and with alternating colors (e.g., a red 8 on a black 9).
- The Stock Pile: The face-down deck of remaining cards. Click it to draw new cards.
- The Waste Pile: Where cards from the stock pile are placed face-up. The top card of the waste is available for play.
- The Foundations: The four empty piles where you will build your suits from Ace to King. Gameplay Rules
- Move cards within the tableau onto cards of the next-highest rank and opposite color.
- You can move an entire stack of face-up cards as a single unit.
- If you uncover a face-down card in the tableau, it is automatically flipped over.
- Only a King (or a stack starting with a King) can be moved into an empty tableau column.
- Click the stock pile to deal one card (or three, depending on the game mode) to the waste pile.
- When the stock pile is empty, you can reset it by clicking the empty spot, moving all waste cards back into the stock.

- Prioritize the Tableau: Your first goal should always be to reveal face-down cards. Each new card you uncover dramatically increases your available moves.
- Don’t Empty a Spot Prematurely: An empty tableau column is valuable because only a King can fill it. Don’t rush to empty a column unless you have a King ready to place there.
- Be Patient with Foundations: Avoid moving cards to the foundation too quickly. A low-ranking card (like a 3 or 4) might be needed in the tableau to hold a card of the opposite color.
- Check the Waste Pile First: Before making a move in the tableau, always check if the top card of the waste pile can be played. It’s a “free” card that doesn’t disrupt your tableau columns.
